FAQS

Below is a list of questions that most parents have. If you don’t see your question answered here, please feel free contact me via my contact page with any questions or concerns you may have.

Why Should I Hire A Newborn Care Specialist

A highly trained Newborn Care Specialist will help make your transition into your role as a new parent smoother and help ease any anxieties or worries you may have regarding the care of your newborn. She is highly trained to troubleshoot issues and concerns with your baby and will answer any questions you may have about the care of your newborn. A Newborn Care Specialist will also recognize and understands the postpartum phase a lot of new moms experience and will support her through this transitional period.

What Is The Difference Between A Baby Nurse and A Newborn Care Specialist?

Newborn Care Specialist are commonly referred to as Baby Nurses. However, most of the time, they are non-medically trained infant specialists with extensive hands-on infant experience. Newborn Care Specialists are typically not registered nurses and cannot legally refer to themselves as “baby nurses” in most states. You may have also heard the terms doulas, newborn nannies, postpartum nannies, maternity nannies/nurses, or night nannies. Basically, they all perform the same duties and are hired to assist new parents with day-to-day care of their newborn. Additionally, a Newborn Care Specialist transitions, educates and supports parents to care for the newborn and help the family establish a practical routine that allows new parents to feel comfortable and settled in to their roles.

When should I Start Looking For A Newborn Care Specialist?

It’s never too early to start interviewing and reserve a good, trustworthy Newborn Care Specialist that will fit well within your family. Usually, parents like to have someone booked 3-6 months before their due date. Although, if you find yourself in a situation where you need some help on a short notice, feel free to call and see if I’m available.

How Long Will I Need A Newborn Care Specialist?

That all depends on you and your family’s needs. You can just have someone come in for a week or two while you are recovering from childbirth or you can have them stay up to 12 weeks for complete infant care and sleep shaping. Some parents even book Newborn Care Specialists for the first 6 months if they have very busy lifestyles. There is at least a 3-day minimum.

What Can I Expect From A Newborn Care Specialist?

A Newborn Care Specialist will come to your home shortly after your baby comes home from the hospital and will help care for and nurture your baby, as well as, provide you the education and guidance as you learn your role as a new parent. She will either sleep in the baby’s room or a nearby guest room and tend to the baby’s needs throughout the night allowing parents to get the much-needed rest that they desire. A Newborn Care Specialist will stay with your family for as long as needed, leaving you with the tools you will need to continue to foster good sleep habits in the months to follow.

What Can I Expect From The Initial Consultation?

The Newborn Care Specialist will come to your home shortly after the baby is born. She will discuss strategies and different techniques, troubleshoot problems, answer questions, and implement a customized sleep/feed schedule that best accommodates your family’s lifestyle. She can show you how to implement these techniques, guide you and even take over if you need respite. Most of all, she works with you, you will not have set methods forced on you. It will be your decision which method benefits you most. She will also assist in helping you determine the supplies that you will need and are most useful to help care for your newborn.

What Are The Benefits Of Having My Newborn On A Schedule?

Most parents are taught to feed their babies on demand or believe they have a way of putting themselves on their own schedule in hopes of it happening sooner rather than later. In my experience, every baby that I’ve ever worked with or assisted has thrived tremendously on having a set schedule. It has been proven over and over that children with stabilization and on a good schedule are much happier and well-content children in the long run! Children, including newborns, need to know what comes next; it gives them a sense of comfort. By having your child on a schedule at an early age, as well as, implementing the baby’s daily schedule to work into you and your family’s schedule instead the other way around, everybody wins!
